Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you paddle into the dark.

On our Tobago Bioluminescence Tours we get to interact with glowing plankton, along with spot other marine creatures of the night while taking part in a 100% carbon neutral activity.
At the start of every tour we teach all the basics of kayaking. This tour requires reasonably good fitness as it's two hours long (about 6km) and we'll be paddling for most of that time. Kayaks sit two people and are low to the water so it's much easier to paddle.
We meet at Radical Sports Tobago, on the tip of Pigeon Point. You may have to pay the entrance of TT$20 per person depending on what time you come. Pigeon Point is free after 6pm.
From January to September: please arrive by 6:30pm, returning 9–9:30pm. From October to December: please arrive by 6:05pm, returning around 9pm. Times depend on the group's paddling pace.
Beach wear is fine but you will get wet. We recommend a t-shirt or rash guard for possible sandflies in the lagoon. Bug spray on skin is OK but please don't swim if you use it as it is harmful to the plankton.
Unless you have a very high-end camera with waterproof housing, you won't be able to get pictures of the bioluminescence itself. The new iPhone Pro models are getting better results. You can take pictures of each other with a waterproof phone or camera.
All ages are welcome. For young kids (10 or under) we recommend one child in the middle of two parents in a kayak. Bring a towel in a dry bag for young kids as they can get cold.
